Text: Luke 24:13-35

Unmet expectations, even when , lead to .

The people waving palm branches and shouting the words of Psalm 118 - the Conqueror's Psalm - were getting behind a  against Rome.

They had the expectation Jesus was about to round up an  and was going to physically deliver Israel from the rule of the Roman Empire.

Our expectations of God are different than those in the first century, but they are often just as .

  • We expect  for us to look a certain way.

 

  • We expect life to go smoothly and be

 

  • We expect life will be . (Heb. 11:33-39)

Every person of faith must go through times and seasons when things don't , when God isn't meeting our expectations.

We are still learning the reality of .

What the Father wants is to undo our  expectations, to show us more the reality of His heart and goodness, to show us more and more who He is.

We can expect God to work in  for our good.

The promise - a promise guaranteed by an  - is that God is at work even in the bad and evil for the ultimate good of those who love Him. (Rm. 8:28)

When we are tempted to question the heart of God - to wonder if He is  - we look at the cross and the empty tomb. (Rm. 8:31-32)
