The Lord who Provides

Series: The Way of the Cross

Passage: John 19:28-30

Previous Page

God provides every need as we radically follow Him (John 19:28-30). With three words on the cross – it is finished – Jesus makes it clear that God is Yahweh Yireh, the LORD who provides. Jesus on the cross has many parallels to Genesis 22:1-14, where Abraham obeys God and demonstrates great faith in taking steps to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Just as Abraham takes his knife and is about to offer Isaac as a sacrifice, God stops him. God sees the radical obedience and faith of Abraham and provides a ram for him to sacrifice instead of Isaac. From this experience, Abraham names that place Yahweh Yireh. Jesus, through the cross, is our ultimate once-for-all sacrifice that God has provided (Hebrews 10:1-18). Through Jesus and the cross, God provides for our physical needs, our need for emotional security and happiness, and our need for significance (Matthew 6:31). Through Jesus, God vanquishes our fears of lack. When we pursue Jesus – His kingdom and His righteousness – God provides all that need (Matthew 6:33).

The Lord who Provides

Texts: John 19:28-30; Genesis 22:1-14

If we can believe deep within what those three words -  - tell us about the reality of God, it will go a long way to reducing much of the fear that is so common in our lives.

Yahweh  - I Am He Who will .

God  every  as we radically follow Him.

Abraham was so convinced of God's provision that he believed God, who gave him a child when he was 100 years old, could raise Isaac from the  even though such a miracle had yet to ever occur. (Heb. 11:17-19)

The foundation of all our fears is the fear we will  something we need in life.

The hill we call  is the hill Abraham named Yahweh

On that hill God provided  so that every human has a way to be right with Him through His Son, Jesus.

When Jesus said , He was declaring that the debt of sin for all humanity was paid in full through His death.

But He was also shouting, "Whatever  you face as you follow me, I will ."

So do not , saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'... But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and  these things will be provided to you as well. Matthew 6:31,33
