Loving in Word Only

Series: The Biblical Guide to Quitting

Passage: 1 John 3:16-18

Previous Page

Without action there is no love (1 John 3:16-18). This truth is seen most clearly in Jesus, who demonstrated His love for us by laying down His life for us; while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us (Romans 5:8). In other words, God did for us in Jesus what we could never do for ourselves. In response, we choose to love God with all that we are and to love the people around us. Freely we have received, so freely we give (Matthew 10:8). The enemy, however, wants to deceive us into believing that we can love God and others without any personal responsibility or action. The truth is that we are saved and redeemed in Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:10). The goal of our faith is to love God and people in action and in truth (1 John 3:18).

Love in Word Only

Text: 1 John 3:16-18

I know Jesus loves me - we know of the grandness of His love - not primarily by what He said but by what He . (Jn. 3:16)

 there is no love.

The enemy wants to deceive us into believing we can love God but what we do in our  doesn't really matter.

True salvation is "  works" but it is "  works." (Eph. 2:8-9)

Christianity is loving  first and foremost with everything we are and loving the  He loves like we love ourselves. (Mt. 22:36-40)

According to the Bible, becoming a Christian is a  that costs us . (Lk. 9:23)

Attending church isn't the goal of our faith. The goal of our faith is to love  and  in deed and in truth.

But we cannot really do that without the church, without other . (Hb. 10:24-25)

What if we prayed a simple prayer this year? ", Lord."

"Show me the ways I can love you , Lord."

"Show me the specific ways I can love people  , Lord."

If we will do this together, what God will do in the years ahead in the lives of people will stagger us. And we will also increasingly live in the  Jesus promised.
