    God is Love

    Passage: 1 John 4:8-10

    Previous Page

Our world uses the word love for a lot of things- favorite foods, hobbies, romance, even "no score" in sports. But Scripture says something deeper: God is love (1 John 4:8). This week’s message reminded us that love doesn’t define God—God defines love. We see God’s love most clearly in Jesus, who was sent to deal with our sin and bring us back to relationship with God (1 John 4:9–10). God’s love is not casual or permissive. It is holy, costly, and life-giving. The offer is open to everyone, but the benefits of that love are received when we respond to Him.

    Love

    Text: 1 John 4:8-10

The problem with this thought that God's love justifies any choice or decision I make isn't just that it contradicts what Scripture declares, but it actually keeps us from  God's love.

True love is ultimately defined in Jesus'  for our sins.

Jesus came to  once and for all the righteous anger of God against sin. (Hebrews 9:24-27)

If we want to dare truly understand the glory of what "God is love" truly means, then we must grow in our understanding of the  of our reality outside of Jesus.

By Jesus'  sprinkled on the heavenly mercy seat, we have the opportunity not just to be forgiven but to be made new where sin no longer has power over us.

The  of God's love is unconditional, but the  of God's love is very conditional.

We receive God's love by loving Him above anything else. The  we've received God's love is a growing love for Him. (Matthew 22:37)

To love Him with our  is to honor Him for who He is with lives of worship by daily surrendering our lives to follow Him.

To love Him with our  is to daily be transformed to think more and more like He thinks.

To love Him with our  is to make our daily choices based on what God says is right and good. It is to seek to stay in step with the Spirit.
