Put on Honesty

Series: BeReal.

Summary

Speaking truth is foundational to being like God (Ephesians 4:21-25). While we instinctively long for honesty and integrity within ourselves, our children, and our leaders, we each have a propensity to lie. As we embrace Jesus and say yes to Him, we begin a lifelong journey of becoming like Him. When we grow in our likeness to God, that propensity to lie, as part of the old self, is put off like a garment as we put on the new self. Of first importance in putting on the new self and becoming like God is speaking the truth. In fact, our relationship with God is based on speaking truth, on confession that leads to freedom. Not only this, but our healthy relationships with one another also involve speaking truth and building trust. As we become more like God – as we embrace honesty – we will experience a greater measure of the abundant life God has in store for us.

Put on Honesty

Text: Ephesians 4:21-25 (p. 978)

Humans have a   to

Once we accept Jesus, we aren't done. We are to   into the likeness of God. (v.24)

The more we   to actually be like God, the more of His abundant life we get to actually live.

And the image Paul uses here is taking off an old set of clothes and     new clothes - clothes like God's.

Speaking truth is   to being like God. (Ex. 20:16: Mt. 5:37; Rev. 21:7-8)

Our hope - our   - is all based on God being absolutely trustworthy in who He is and what He says. (Heb. 6:18)

and how do we know He is trustworthy?   (2 Cor. 1:20)

Our relationship     is based on speaking truth. (Rom. 10:9)

at its heart, is agreeing with God and speaking our agreement.

The more we   - the more we speak God's truth - the more   we have to live in abundant life.

(which everyone agrees are life-giving) are based on trust. Trust comes from speaking truth and following through on what we say.

Will we allow God to help is     falsehood and put on honesty?
