Politics

Series: Handle with Care

Summary

While politics are important, they are not of first importance (1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:20). When we become followers of Jesus, we give our primary allegiance to the kingdom of God and become ambassadors of that kingdom. Our first concern must be people meeting Jesus and experiencing a transformation of heart through Him. Unfortunately, politics and laws cannot resolve the issue of sin and our need for a savior. This does not mean that politics are unimportant. We should continually vote for righteousness with grace, kindness, and respect. We should contend for righteous laws that bless as many people as possible – believers and non-believers in Jesus – without trying to make people Christians through legal means. In this pursuit, Christians will not always agree on political matters. We can be unified on the centrality of Jesus and His kingdom and disagree over political philosophies and strategies. When there is disagreement, we must model the heart of God’s kingdom by loving those with whom we disagree, by avoiding anger and extremism, and by outdoing one another in showing honor and respect.

When a person becomes a follower of Jesus, we give our primary   to the kingdom of God that isn't like other human kingdoms. (Jn. 18:33-36; Lk. 14:26)

Politics aren't of

Our country is in great need, and only the coming of     into human hearts will resolve the issues of our nation.

Law can't change the   Law can't empower people to do what is right and good. law cant make us right with God. (Jn. 1:17)

Jesus followers alone carry the   to the great need of out society. We alone carry the gospel of Jesus Christ! (1 Cor. 15:3-4)

Politics are

Because some in the church have made politics of    I'm afraid others have just   politics altogether.

As   of the kingdom of righteousness, we can contend for     that bless as many as possible - believers and nonbelievers - without trying to make people Christings through legal means. (Prov. 11:11)

Christians will not always   on politics.

We can be   on the centrality of Jesus and His kingdom and disagree over specifices of politics.

There are many elements of politics - philosophies and strategies - that  aren't about

We need to model the heart of our kingdom by loving those with whom we disagree, by communicating not out of   or   but respect and honor, especially with fellow Jesus followers.
