As those at war, we need to be

The  of God is the arsenal, our stockpile of weapons. We get this arsenal by engaging the Bible often and regularly through personal reading, groups, study, listening and mediating. 

But the  of God, the sword of the Spirit, is the deployment of that weapon into a specific situation when the enemy attacks.
