At His Feet
Luke 10:38-42 NIV
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
While Martha loved having Jesus in her home, she was disappointed that her sister, Mary, followed the disciples to sit at Jesus’ feet. Martha wanted her sister to help carry the load of preparing and serving Jesus and his disciples.
Earlier this year, I knew I was focusing too much on the “many” things that I needed to do and not focusing on the “one” thing that was truly necessary. I also knew there was one thing I needed more than anything, I needed more time with Him. I found myself crying out to Him asking a similar question just as Martha had. “Lord, don’t you care that I have so much to prepare all by myself?” He sweetly reminded me that it was time to sit at His feet and listen, just as Mary had.
So, that is exactly what I am doing. I am putting away my overwhelmingly busy self-made agendas and cozying up at His feet. Seeking his presence even more. I am encouraging you to do the same if you find yourself overwhelmed or anxious.
Is there something that is currently overwhelming you?
Are you intentionally seeking His presence daily?
