Passage: 1 John 4:7-12
God’s love can only be received, not earned. While this seems like a simple truth, it is one that many of us fail to completely grasp. As children we are taught to work hard in school because good grades are not given, only earned. We work hard to afford the things we buy, and in turn, we try to achieve success in other areas of our lives as well—even relationships. While work ethic is a good thing, striving to earn God’s affection and love is the furthest thing from what His love is all about. We will never be able to earn God’s love, and that’s on purpose. His love for us goes beyond anything we could ever think or do. He loves us for who we are, no matter what, no more, no less... and that’s what makes God’s love, a radical love.
