No Day Like That...
This morning, as I was reading through my Bible reading plan (Joshua 10), there was a phrase that stood out to me, “there was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man…”
You see…Joshua was leading the sons of Israel in battle through the land of Canaan, to grab hold of the “promised land.” Joshua’s army had already defeated Jericho and Ai, and were now in the middle of fighting five Amorite kings and their armies. They had traveled about 25 miles uphill the night before, were tired, and it seemed that they needed more daylight to complete the task of defeating the enemy armies. So, Joshua spoke to the Lord and told the sun to stand still and the moon to stop. It seems that these commands were really more of a prayer to God asking for the miraculous…and God listened and delivered!
That got me thinking…in this season of the coronavirus…
Do I believe God will hear my prayers and declarations and move on our behalf?
Do I believe God is willing to do the miraculous in this day, for little ole’ me?
YES, I do believe!
Now, I don’t pretend to understand exactly how God chooses to work when we cry out in prayer, but scripture is clear in several areas:
- All authority in heaven and earth belongs to Jesus Christ – Matt 28:18
- In Christ, and as His ambassadors, we have access to that authority – Luke 9:1-2; Matt 10:1; Matt 10:7-8
- There is power in the Word of God and it is active and alive – Hebrews 4:12
- There is power in the words we speak – Proverbs 18:21
So, with this knowledge and increased faith (that I ask for daily), I choose to believe that what I pray and declare does make a difference in the spiritual atmosphere of my life, home, city, nation and even the world.
Those who know me well, know I love to drive around in my car, worship the Lord and pray. If you see me driving down the road my mouth is moving…because this is a constant thing for me. I drive around our personal property and pray; I drive around the church campuses and pray; I circle the city and pray. In this season of COVID-19, there may be places that you can’t go, but hopefully you still have the opportunity to get in your car and drive around some places and pray!
We too, like Joshua, find ourselves with a new battle that we’ve never faced before. We are tired and weary. However, I want to challenge you today…JOIN ME and circle your city…worship the Lord…and speak to that COVID-19 mountain and tell it to MOVE (Matt 17:20). Let’s believe together that we will someday hear the words…“there was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man…”
