Is That Open Door Really From God?
Hebrews 11:6 says: "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Every once in a while an opportunity comes our way that just seems to fall into our laps and just “seems” right.
It could be anything from a job change. A once in a lifetime trip. An offer to start or go into business with someone. Or a relationship that forms out of nowhere and appears to be perfect and full of promise.
But is that opportunity or open door really from God? Doors will most likely open, but God isn’t necessarily the one always opening those doors. The key to walking through a God opened door will be knowing and discerning if the opportunity is really from God or not. So here are a few questions you can ask yourself to help in the process of knowing if a door is being opened by God.
First and most importantly, does the opportunity that is presented in anyway contradict God’s Word? God will not lead you toward an opportunity that contradicts what He clearly says in His written Word. Nor will He open a door that would require you to be disobedient or compromise integrity or Biblical standards for you to enter through. Anything that requires us to bend or twist Scripture to justify our decision would be called temptation, rather than an open door. And Scripture is very clear that God does not tempt us (James 1:13-14)
Secondly, if there is a question, it's ok to ask God for confirmation. Has there been confirmation from other godly sources? Matthew 18:15-16 speaks to every matter being established by two or three witnesses. Through personal prayer and intercession of others, seeking godly wisdom and discernment you can get a clearer picture of confirmation as to if it is God opening the door.
Lastly and certainly not limited to, does the opportunity require you stepping out in faith and dependence on God? Hebrews 11:6 says: "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. God is a God of relationship, He is not going to give us something that will cause us to draw away from Him or make us believe we no longer need Him.
Sometimes we walk away from opportunities or open doors because they look bigger than we feel qualified to proceed through. This is intentional, God doesn’t ever intend for you to do it on your own. This opportunity maybe the very thing that God is calling you to so He can equip you to do more than you ever thought possible. He wants to equip you through His power to accomplish more together than you ever dreamed.
God desires to be part of your discerning process. Every open door is not always a door we should walk through.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, examine the doors before me. Give me grace to discern through confirmation what is your purpose and direction for my life. I don’t want to miss any opportunity you have placed before me, nor do I want to run through any door that YOU have not opened. In Jesus” Name…
Today’s Challenge: Ask Holy Spirit to show you if you have opened and walked through any doors of opportunity that God has not opened. Or, to show you if He is opening a door that you may have refused to walk through…Ask Him for forgiveness and new direction.
