In You, I Lack Nothing

Isaiah 26:3 (NIV) - You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

This week I had the not-so-wonderful privilege of dropping our Shih Tzu dog (Kimmie) off at the groomers. Most times this honor falls to me every six weeks or so. And somehow, Kimmie has figured it out: an extended drive alone with me equals time at the groomers. Once this clicks in her little brain, nervousness sets in.  There is the shaking, the panting, and some kind of weird dog odor that emerges. She is clearly anxious about the groomers.

The interesting thing to me about it is that the groomers take amazing care of Kimmie. They give her a trim, file her nails, do other things involving expressing glands (better them than me), all while loving on her. It’s all for her own good. But she gets so worked up about it, visibly anxious.

As I was dropping her off, I felt the nudge of the Holy Spirit. He was gently speaking, “How anxious are you right now? How worked up are you? Don’t you know that I’m taking care of you? Don’t you see that even if you’re a little uncomfortable and out of sorts, I’m working for your good? Don’t you see that there’s a bigger picture here? You can trust me!”

Questions:

  • How nervous or anxious are you right now? How does that anxiousness manifest in your actions or attitude?
  • If you were honest, what is your level of trust that God is taking care of you right now and that He has good things in store for you during this season?
  • What would it look like to experience the perfect peace promised in Isaiah 26:3?

Action Step: Declare These Truths Verbally

I declare, by the power of the Holy Spirit, that my mind is steadfast on You, Lord. I place my full trust in You and believe wholeheartedly that You are my Good Shepherd who provides all that I need. In You, I lack nothing. You are leading me to green pastures and quiet waters where I can experience Your perfect peace. You are working all things for my good in this season, and I can rest in Your provision.
