Week 1 | day five
Greater Things
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12
If David represents Jesus in the story of David and Goliath, then I would contend that Saul’s army could possibly be a representation of the Body of Christ. Many in the Church when they hear the news of “all” that’s going on in and around our world tend to respond much like Saul and his army. When they heard the words of the Philistine say “I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.” They were dismayed and greatly afraid. (1 Samuel 17:11)
We have a very real enemy that continues to stand and shout to the ranks of the army of God! He is still declaring with an intimidating voice, calling out to whomever has ears to hear, “who is able to fight with me and kill me?” David has gone before us and showed us the reality that Jesus defies the odds. Christ accomplishes the seemingly impossible, what seems undefeatable is defeated!
Because of the Cross and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we too are more than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37). We can be the army of God that rises up, not just as individuals, but collectively, together through the infilling presence of Holy Spirit. We can take our position in Christ and defeat the powers of darkness. The voices that rise up in our day and in our culture that speak up to defy the Word and ways of God can be silenced and destroyed.
These are not the days to be like “the army of Saul.” We cannot afford to give into the temptations to be “greatly afraid” or “dismayed” but neither do we focus on the giants of the land. We fix our focus on God, and armed with the truth that God wins and it is God who deliver’s, we can speak what David spoke, “Let no man’s heart fail because of Goliath. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
No one is better equipped to break the power of darkness, to rout out the giants in our land, than the Body of Christ. To do so, the “army of God,” the believer’s in Christ, will need to face and conquer their own personal “giants” of fear, rejection, comfort, anger and addiction. We can and must be victorious in these arenas for God has promised that we would do greater things.
Today’s Prayer: God, I confess the places of intimidation and fear in my heart as I face the things that seem bigger than myself. Convince my heart that “greater are You that is in me than he that is in the world.” Holy Spirit, I choose to believe today that You are granting me strength to accomplish all I need to be victorious today. In Jesus Name, Amen!
Today’s Challenge: Ask God what battle line is on His heart that He would want you to join in the fight to gain the victory over. Again, focus on the truth that He has already won and secured the victory.
