Thriving Marriages

Series: Take Back Your Family

Passage: Ephesians 5:21-30

Previous Page

Thriving marriages fight for purpose, not perfection (Ephesians 5:21-30). Without question, marriage is under attack, and we are often losing the battle because of passivity. The truth is that no one stumbles into a healthy marriage; it requires work and effort. It requires mutual submission to one another, as well as unconditional and sacrificial love (agape love). When our marriages have purpose – when we are fighting for our marriages – they begin to be characterized by submission, forgiveness, fair fighting, and outdoing your spouse.

We can have a  marriage and still be

God's plan: Thriving marriages fight for  - not

A thriving marriage requires  - it isn't one or the other.

Agape love doesn't wait to be  - it chooses to love at every opportunity.

Marriage on purpose means:

  • Mutual submission doesn't start with , it starts with (1 Corinthians 7:1-4)

Marriage on purpose means:

  • The win in conflict in our marriage isn't to be , it's to be

Marriage on purpose means:

  • We can't build  when we're building a . (Hebrews 12:15)

Marriage on purpose means:  your spouse

  • Imagine a marriage where both spouses compete to  one another in showing love, honor, service, and affection. (Romans 12:10)
